Knowledge and Innovation
The Terres de Lleida region not only offers spectacular landscapes and a rich cultural heritage, but is also a hub of scientific and technological activity. From renewable energy to agri-food research and cutting-edge astronomical observation, our tourism brand invites you to discover an innovative and surprising facet of the territory. Get ready for an immersion in the science and technology that shapes our future!
Montsec Astronomical Observatory (OAM)

What is it? Located in the municipality of Sant Esteve de la Sarga, within the Serra del Montsec area, which holds the Starlight Reserve and Starlight Tourist Destination certification. The OAM is an astronomical research and dissemination center of international reference thanks to the quality of its night sky, one of the best in Europe.

What does it offer to visitors? The Center for the Observation of the Universe (COU) offers an immersive digital planetarium (the "Eye of Montsec"), guided tours of the telescope park and night observation sessions with professional telescopes, allowing the general public to enjoy astronomy first-hand.
Wind Farms in the Plain and Pre-Pyrenees

What is it? Taking advantage of the force of the wind, especially in higher and more open areas of the Lleida plain and the Pre-Pyrenees, several wind farms have been installed that contribute to the production of renewable energy.

What does it offer to visitors? Although they cannot be visited internally, the views of the large wind turbines towering over the landscape are impressive. Some viewpoints near areas such as the Serra del Tallat (between Urgell and Segarra) or the Noguera offer excellent panoramic views of these infrastructures..
Agri-Food Research and Agro-Industry

What is it? Lleida is the agri-food capital of Catalonia and a benchmark in research in this area. The University of Lleida (UdL) and several research centers (such as the Center for Research and Agro-Food Technology - IRTA, or the Center for Research in Animal Health - CReSA, based on the UdL campus) are at the forefront of innovation in agricultural production, livestock, food safety and efficient use of water.

What does it offer to visitors? Occasionally, some centres can organise open days or visits for specialist groups. Although access is not regular for general tourism, knowledge can be promoted through information on the website about innovation projects or participation in fairs and events in the sector. You can visit the Fira de Sant Miquel in Lleida, one of the most important in the agricultural sector, with an important technological component.
Irrigation and Water Management:

What is it? The historic irrigation canals (such as the Canal d'Urgell or the Canal de Seròs) are impressive civil engineering works that transformed the plain of Lleida into an orchard. Today, water management remains a technological challenge and an example of sustainability.

What does it offer to visitors? You can explore sections of the Canal d'Urgell by bicycle or on foot, observing its imposing hydraulic works (siphons, bridges, floodgates). The Lleida Water Museum offers a historical and technical perspective on the use of this vital resource.
